Meet Ada + Max

Ada and Max are from a small seaside town in Maine, where math seems to show up everywhere, from counting lobsters at the boat dock, measuring ingredients while baking and summer nights counting stars!

Together they make math approachable, fun, and connected to the real world your kids live in every day. They believe that when you break big problems into smaller pieces, they start to make more sense.

Hi, I'm Ada!
Your Math Guide

Ada, the Curious Adventurer

Named after Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer

Ada is a curious, adventure-seeking girl who finds math in everything around her. Whether she is counting lobsters on the docks, measuring flour in the kitchen, or tracing constellations across a summer sky, numbers are always part of the adventure.

She believes that every hard problem becomes manageable once you slow down, look carefully, and take it one step at a time. That is the approach she brings to every math lesson in the app.

Fun Fact

Ada Lovelace, the real mathematician Ada is named after, realized that complicated ideas could be explained using clear, step-by-step instructions. She is widely considered the first computer programmer — girl power!

Ruff, Ruff — Hi from Max!
Ada's Loyal Sidekick

Max, the Enthusiastic Helper

Named after James Clerk Maxwell, mathematical genius

Max is Ada's loyal Bernese Mountain Dog and her very best study buddy. He is always by her side with boundless energy, a wagging tail, and a paw raised to celebrate every correct answer. When kids feel stuck or frustrated, Max reminds them that trying again is always worth it.

James Clerk Maxwell, the mathematician Max is named after, could carefully work through very complicated math problems even when they seemed impossible to solve. Max carries that same never-give-up spirit into every session.

Fun Fact

Even though his full name is Maxwell, Ada's pup prefers to be called Max. He also really likes to wear overalls, a lot! We do not know exactly why, but he sure does find them comfy.

Math is Everywhere

From busy lobster docks at sunrise, reading tides, hikes in the woods and counting twinkling stars on warm summer nights, Ada + Max turn everyday adventures in Maine into fun math discoveries.

Come explore with them and enjoy math along the way!

Frequently Asked Questions

Ada and Max are the friendly characters that guide children through math learning in the Ada+Max app. Ada is named after mathematician Ada Lovelace (often considered the first computer programmer), and Max is named after James Clerk Maxwell (the physicist who formulated the classical theory of electromagnetic radiation). Together, they make math approachable, fun, and connected to the real world kids experience every day. Learn more about Ada+Max.

Not at all — Ada+Max adjusts to your child's level. You can easily set the grade level right in the app's Settings so Ada tailors her explanations and encouragement to match where your child is. Just choose the range that fits best:

  • Grades 1–2 — Simple addition, subtraction, and early number concepts
  • Grades 3–4 — Multiplication, division, fractions, and word problems
  • Grades 5–6 — Multi-step problems, decimals, percentages, and more

You can change it anytime as your child grows!

The idea came from when the founder, a computer programmer by background, spent several frustrating evenings helping his daughter with math homework. Night after night, he heard "but I can't answer it like that, we learned it a different way." This highlighted the disconnect between how parents learned math and how children are taught today. Determined to bridge this gap, he spent over a year developing Ada+Max to make learning the fundamentals of math fun and to help parents with the same frustration. Fun fact, Ada & Max are real! Well, sort of... the likeness of the characters closely resemble the founder's daughter and bernese mountain dog.

Ada+Max is an independent educational technology company focused on providing accessible math help for families. While we align with modern math principles (including Common Core standards), we are not affiliated with any specific school district or educational institution. Our goal is to support learning wherever it happens, at home, in the classroom, or on the go.

Ada+Max's AI explanations are designed to align with how math is currently taught in schools, focusing on conceptual understanding and multiple problem-solving strategies. The app emphasizes modern math principles like number bonds, decomposing numbers, and visual modeling, methods that build number sense and mathematical flexibility rather than just memorizing procedures.

Yes! Ada+Max is designed to support math learning in any environment, including homeschooling. The app provides clear, step-by-step explanations of math concepts using current instructional methods, making it a valuable tool for parents who want to ensure their children are learning math in a way that builds deep understanding and confidence.

Ada+Max is designed for elementary school students (typically grades K-6) who are learning foundational math concepts. You can adjust the difficulty level in the settings. The app will adapt its content based on difficulty level, making it suitable for early learners building number sense as well as older students working on fractions, decimals, and more advanced topics.

Ada+Max explains math using the same modern methods and principles taught in today's classrooms, which align with Common Core standards. However, we focus on the understanding behind the methods rather than the standards themselves. Our goal is to help children develop mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve them regardless of specific curriculum labels.

Ada+Max takes children's privacy seriously. The app does not contain ads, and we follow strict data protection practices to ensure a safe learning environment. For specific details about our privacy practices, please refer to our Privacy Policy available within the app or on our website.
